Digital Construction

01.02.2008

As a part of the Danish government’s initiative ”Digital Construction”, public building owners have since January 2007 been obligated to put forward certain requirements that private companies must fulfil when biding on public construction assignments. The requirements concern application of information and communication technology (ICT).

The initiative “Digital Construction” springs from the government’s ambition to increase efficiency in the Danish construction sector through public claims. Past experience has shown that high and consistent demands from public building owners will penetrate the entire sector. In the end this will lead to an increase in productivity and quality.

“Digital Construction” encompasses 10 specific digital requirements within 4 different areas.

·       Supply, offer and tenders via the internet

·       Use of 3D models

·       Use of a joint project web

·       Digital delivery of facility management data from the construction project

The goal of Digital Construction is to influence companies to use the same data and plans in all phases of the building process. If partners use and speak the same language in the process it is easier to avoid misunderstandings, failures and delays.

The partners affected by the initiative and the specific demands appear in “Benkendtgørelse om krav til anvendelse af Informations- og Kommunikationsteknologi plus the belonging instruction guide.

Digital Construction has its own web page, where you can find information, advice, tools and experiences from past tenders. You can find a link to the web page on the right hand side.
