Financial and business activities that cut across geographical boundaries are subject to some overall frameworks. The Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority (DECA) contributes to impacting on the frameworks through negotiations within a number of international organisations.
The international work of the DECA focuses in particular on the following important areas that are significant to Danish enterprises in relation to global trade.
- Global trade agreements, where focus is in particular on the international trade agreements made in the WTO. The DECA participates in the negotiations on services under GATS, General Agreement on Trade in Services. The Hong Kong Ministerial Declaration from December 2005 outlines milestones to be met carry the Doha-round forward.
- Trade defence instruments, where the DECA participates in EU negotiations on trade defence instruments and especially antidumping. The NAEC seeks to limit the negative impact on global trade of the trade defence instruments.
- Import regulations, where the DECA participates in EU negotiations on a number of goods that are subject to special regulations and require an import license, especially textiles and steel. The NAEC administers the import restrictions that follow from these international agreements.
- Defence suppliers. Please read more about the industrial obligations of foreign suppliers of defence material towards Denmark. The DECA administers the settlement of these obligations.
- Export controls. Please read more about what products require an export authorisation, and how to apply for this authorisation. The DECA administers the export controls on dual-use products (products that may be used for civil and military purposes) that follow from international agreements in the area of export controls.
- Controls on chemical weapons. Please read more about the international Chemical Weapons Convention and what chemicals are comprised by the Convention. The DECA administers the Chemical Weapons Convention in Denmark.
- Financial sanctions. The DECA administers financial sanctions adopted by the UN and the EU that to a certain extent limit and regulate trade with third countries. This administration implies among other things participation in international negotiations and information to the Danish business community on the sanctions in question.
