Denmark ratified the CWC in July 1995 after the Danish Parliament adopted Act no 443 of 14 June 1995 on Inspections, Submission of Declarations and Control pursuant to the UN's Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Later, this Act was slightly amended by Act no 470 of 10 June 1997 transferring competence from the Ministry of Taxation to the Ministry of Business and Industry.

In pursuance of Act no 443 of 14 June 1995, sections 4, 5(2), 6(5) and 8(2), The Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority issued Executive Order no 235 of 30 March 2004 on Transfers, the Submission of Declarations, Control and Inspections pursuant to the United Nations Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

By Executive Order no 297 of 30 April 1997 on the Entry into Force of Act on Inspections, Submission of Declarations and Control pursuant to the UN's Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, this Act was put into force.

The prohibition against importation, development, production, consumption, stockpiling, selling, exportation or possession of chemical weapons was enacted by Executive Order no 449 of 9 June 2005 on Weapons and Ammunition etc. (only available in Danish).

Denmark has declared:
In accordance with Art. III and VI of the Convention Denmark submitted initial declarations to the OPCW at the end of May 1997.

As to Art. III Denmark declared i.a.;

  • that it does not own or possess any chemical weapons;
  • that there are no chemical weapons on Danish territory that are owned and possessed by another State;
  • that Denmark has not transferred or received any chemical weapons since 1 January 1946;
  • that Denmark has no old and abandoned chemical weapons on its territory (chemical weapons dumped at sea before 1 January 1985 are considered outside the scope of the Convention);
    that Denmark neither has nor has had any chemical weapons production facility on its territory.
